There was some discussion on the BB regarding the desirability of a bold Symbol font. Non impact printers do not print Bold even though it appears bold on the screen. This is unfortunate since there are mathematical conventions which require the bold type face. A similiar situation exists for Italic. I recently purchased "The Incubator!¬, published by Type Solutions, Inc, which allows just such type face manipulations on TrueType fonts as were desired. Apple's Symbol TrueType font was used as the starting point. NuSymbol Bold bears roughly the same relationship to its parent as does Times Bold to Times. The NuSymbol italic is skewed 15 degrees forward., while NuSymbol bold italic is a combination of both. NuSymbol has been made into a type family (courtesy of Altsys "Style Merger").
Then after the TrueType font faces were produced they were run through Altsys "Fontographer" and
converted to PS Type1.
This is the second version of NuSymbol. The first had some spacing problems for the bold and bold,Italic typefaces. Seems to be OK now.
Just install it the same way you do any Type1 font. Only NuSymbol will appear on the menu but
choosing bold and/or Italic from the style menu will produce the desired result on the printer.
NuSymbol may NOT be included in any collection of software sold for profit, but may be included by MUGs offerings where the cost is only to recover the cost of the media.
I would appreciate any and all feedback as to the usibility of these typefaces.
